Grants of $5,000 to USA and territories individual artists for urgent financial support during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to assist artists who are experiencing severe financial setbacks due to the pandemic. Dire financial emergencies are defined as the lack or imminent endangerment of essentials such as housing, medicine, childcare, and food.

Applicants should select the discipline with which their work most deeply aligns. 

  • Craft (ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metals, textiles, etc.)
  • Dance (dancers, choreographers; aerial, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, tap, etc.)
  • Design (fashion, graphic, industrial, object, all forms of architecture, etc.)
  • Film (animation, documentary, episodic, experimental, narrative, etc.)
  • Media (work at the intersection of technology, aesthetics, storytelling, and digital cultures, etc.)
  • Music (composers, musicians; classical, contemporary, experimental, folk, instrumental, jazz, pop, world, etc.)
  • Theater & Performance (directing, experimental, live action, playwriting, puppetry, tactical and site performance, etc.)
  • Traditional Arts (work related to the continuity and evolution of a tradition and/or cultural heritage such as cultural dance, cultural music, oral expression, and traditional crafts, etc.)
  • Visual Art (installation, painting, performance art, photography, sculpture, sound art, video, etc.)
  • Writing (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, literature for children, criticism, graphic novels, journalism, arts writing, etc.)

Artist Relief will distribute $5,000 grants to artists facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for a relief grant, applicants must be:
- Practicing artists able to demonstrate a sustained commitment to their work, career, and a public audience;
- Experiencing dire financial emergencies due to the COVID-19 pandemic;
- 18 years of age or older;
- Able to provide a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) after they have been notified of their selection;
- Living and working in the U.S. for the last two years;
- Not a full-time employee, board member, director, officer, or immediate family member of any of the coalition partners;
- Not previously awarded a relief grant from this fund.

Important: While Artists Relief understands that creative practices are defined broadly, due to limited capacity and an overwhelming volume of applications, they are not reviewing submissions by commercial merchants, occupations, or vendors working in auto maintenance, baking, balloon, barbering, cosmetology, event planning and production, fitness, food makers, henna, horticulture, magic, marketing, massage and healing therapy, modeling, nail design, professional speaking, soap making, etc.

Nonprofits, arts collectives, performing ensembles, and other groups are not eligible to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

While all dates are subject to change, the application will be open in cycles:
- Cycle X: March 8 - March 31 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle XI: April 1 - April 30 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle XII: May 1 - May 31 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle XIII: June 1 - June 23 (closes 11: 59pm ET)

Final notifications will be sent on the following dates:
- Cycle X: April 7 - 10
- Cycle XI: May 10 - 13
- Cycle XII: June 7 - 10
- Cycle XIII: July 6 - 9

All applicants will be notified through their Submittable account. A message will be sent to the email address associated with this account. In addition, applicants may log into their account to check on the status.

Funds will be distributed within two weeks of an approved application.
