Foundation / Corporation
Egg Nutrition Center (ENC) and American Egg Board
Grants of up to $20,000 to USA, Canada, and international post-doctoral fellows and students for research related to the role of eggs and egg nutrition in healthy diets. Funding is intended to support the development of preliminary results which may increase the scope of current studies or support future research. Examples of eligible projects include pre-clinical data, secondary data analysis from clinical trials, proof-of-concept studies, and development of research methodology. Funding can be used for research supplies, and travel to present at a national meeting.
The 2019 request for proposals targets research that can help advance understanding in emerging scientific topics regarding the role of eggs and egg-related nutrients within healthy diet patterns. The funding source is interested in both observational cohorts or clinical interventions where appropriate and is especially interested in proposals that aim to investigate potential differences across ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age groups, or other relevant subgroups that address the following questions:
-What is the role of eggs in the diet for young children up to 24 months of age? For example, how do eggs or components of eggs impact diet quality, neurocognitive development, or risk for allergy?
-What are the effects of eggs within predominantly plant-based eating patterns? Some evidence has suggested eggs may be a complement to fruits and vegetables due to enhancement of nutrient bioavailability. We are interested in exploring this area further and other effects of eggs within plant-based eating patterns.
-Does the unique nutrient package of eggs (including lipids, phospholipids, protein, vitamins, minerals, and bioactives) contribute to health and prevention of chronic disease across the lifespan?
All projects must adhere to strict research integrity principles and abide by the core values of objectivity, accountability, and transparency. For more information please see the URL for Full Text (RFP) below.
