Deadline Date:

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA nonprofit organizations for educational projects operating nationally or internationally. Grants are typically used for seed funding of new or expanding programs. Applicants are required to submit a letter of inquiry prior to submitting a full application. The Funding Source is particularly interested in supporting underserved populations and creative uses of technology.

The mission of the Morris Family Foundation is to support the growth of innovative, effective educational practices. The Foundation supports education in its broadest definition; i.e., the transmission of information. Supported projects center on learners across the lifespan. Projects may take place in traditional school-based settings or may take the form of vocational education, distance-learning or the transmission of cultural information.

Ideally, grantees will assist in building an infrastructure to support an ongoing project. The Foundation will assist grantees in securing future funding, if necessary. The Foundation believes that a good idea + good people + good leadership leads to positive change.

Estimated Total Program Funding:

$82,500

Estimated Size of Grant:

In 2019, the maximum grant amount will be $82,500. Applications for less than the stated amount are accepted.

In 2018, grant awards ranged from $6,000 to $43,000. Grants are often made to multiple organizations in a single cycle.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Morris Family Foundation grants to organizations or programs whose missions are broadly related to education. Organizations requesting grant funds must have 501(c)(3) designation in the United States.

The Morris Family Foundation does not provide funds to:

- Non-501(c)(3) organizations
- General operating support
- Capital campaigns
- Events or fundraisers
- Individuals
- Organizations primarily engaged in lobbying or political activity
- Congregations or religious organizations (including schools) for projects that primarily benefit their own members or for evangelical purposes. Exceptions may be made for programs that:
1. Receive broad community support,
2. Keep separate financial statements,
3. Primarily benefit persons outside their congregational members.

The Morris Family Foundation is much more likely to award a project-based grant than to simply join in contributing to a larger “pot of money” (e.g., a major fundraise or a capital campaign). The Foundation is also unlikely to fund requests primarily for salaries or general operating expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

Letters of inquiry will be received and reviewed on a rolling basis until September 6, 2019. If the organization is invited to submit a full application, it will be due by October 4, 2019. Decisions and distribution of awards will take place prior to the end of the calendar year.
